The Pandemic & Unemployment

I’m extremely grateful that I’ve been able to qualify for unemployment during this crisis.

Waiting is always the hardest part of any situation.. and this one feels excruciating. Before I was laid off, my hours were initially cut; I’m running on financial fumes!

I heard rumors of an extra $600 week ‘pandemic’ stimulus package that was going to be added as well. I decided to check it out. I posted the summary below:

Pandemic Unemployment Compensation (PUC) Paid to individuals who qualify for regular unemployment compensation. Paid as an additional $600 to amounts that would otherwise be paid. Individuals will be eligible for up to $362/week in state benefits plus $600 in federal benefits. Available to individuals whose unemployment is due to the impact of COVID-19 (broadly defined). Available beginning the week after US-DOL and the state sign an agreement and ending on or before July 31, 2020.

As you can imagine, that comes as a relief since supplies are diminishing quickly!

If you have applied for unemployment & been approved, remember, it’s still going to take a couple of weeks before you receive your initial payment. Maybe longer, due to the millions of cases they have to handle. Be sure to file weekly, and don’t hold your breath!
